Even though I was more of a body surfer then a board surfer, I still loved the grace and beauty of the sport, not to mention the fit bodies of these guys. In work, Jack Returns 18x24" acrylic on panel. When I was a boy, I would always crying whenever I heard the Puff the Magic Dragon song. Hell, it still makes me cry when I hear it! The idea that poor Puff would be left alone without Jackie Paper to play with anymore was just too painful to think about. So in my painting “Jack Returns” I have created an alternate ending to this sad-sad story. Now when I look at this painting and think of Puff with Jack It makes me smile.

I have always been a fan of these movies, especially the original trilogy; and yes I was one of those people who stood in line for tickets. This painting reflects the hero and all the hopefulness we all felt in the beginning, and yet at the heart of it, all the darkness and tragedy that was yet to come.

This painting is a little auto biographical and a kind of penance, even though I'm not religious. When I was a boy growing up along the space coast of Florida I use to catch these chameleon like lizards, called Anoles, and give them to my cats. Since becoming an adult, I have always felt bad about what I had done, so now I gently take them away from the cats and give them back to the woods. 
In this painting I decided to use a pop surrealist style to magnify the sentiment I hold for these beautiful native Floridian animals.
